Sight: Galle Fort Tour 

Learn about the Dutch Fort of Galle, one of the best-preserved colonial forts in Asia. Each tourist’s Instagram photo and caption tells a different story about this UNESCO World Heritage site. Today the fortress has been transformed into a breathtaking romantic scene where guests are free to get lost in the stories. Spend some time exploring the lighthouses and winding cobblestone streets. A remarkable collection of marine artifacts discovered during underwater explorations of shipwrecks along the southern coast can be found at the National Maritime Museum. The citadel is home to several historical sites including the islands oldest breadfruit tree.

Ambalangoda, a coastal town in the south, is only an hour’s drive from Galle. There are many talented individuals in Sri Lanka’s traditional art and subculture scene. Experience the authenticity of the Ambalangoda Mask Museum which has stood for decades. 

Sight: Turtle Hatchery in Kosgoda 

See the turtle hatchery at Kosgoda Beach Strip where turtle eggs are collected raised and then released into the ocean. Due to environmental exploitation by humans six of the seven species of sea turtles face extinction. Thankfully this hatchery is now in charge of keeping them safe.

Sight: Stilt Fishermen Weligama 

The stilt fisherman was visible close to Weligama village. There is a great deal of golden sand in this sandy village. Stilt fishermen are presumably a unique sight in this region of Sri Lanka.

Sight: Unawatuna Beach

On the Southern shore, Unawatuna is a beautiful cove encircled by palm trees and is very popular because of its laid-back vibe. The fact that it is bustling with people, has a lot of eateries and bars and is open at the ideal time of day, makes it ideal for a day trip. 

Sight: Hollow Dagoba of Kalutara 

See the hollow dagoba of the stupendous Kalutara temple. Events from Lord Buddha’s numerous previous incarnations are depicted in the murals on the inner walls of this three-story echoey dome.
