A legacy-leaving patricide king ascended to power before descending from Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Each year between August and September an exceptionally high number of elephants congregate at the Minneriya Tank.

The renowned giant lion’s paws guard the stairs that lead to the summit which was formerly the location of the king’s palace. Halfway up the rock, you can see the famous Sigiriya Frescoes or rock paintings. These paintings are regarded as some of the world’s oldest.
